Scientific Name: Afzelia africana

Other Names / Species: Afzelia, Afa, Beyo, Lingue, Papayo, Uvala

Origin: Africa – Cameroon

Doussie is very hard and durable, with excellent resistance to termite attack. The surface remains smooth under friction and shows minimal movement over time.

Due to its strength and durability, doussie is considered one of the most valuable exotic hardwoods. It is commonly used for flooring, furniture, stair treads, and more.

In terms of hardness, doussie is about twice as hard as Southern Yellow Pine, noticeably harder than hard maple, nearly identical to hickory or pecan, and approximately three-quarters as hard as Santos mahogany.

Doussie has good workability and sands to a smooth finish. It also offers good nail-holding properties. The wood takes stains and polish well due to the yellow deposits in its pores.
